Flea Killing

Flea killing is something that must start as soon as possible after you find that you have a flea infestation, the fleas in your home bread and spread very quickly, they spread disease and the bites from a flea cause irritation. Fleas will feed of any warm blooded animal, so if you have pets they are in danger of getting bitten, dogs, cats even birds can be hosts to fleas, but perhaps one of the most worrying aspects of having fleas in your home is that you and your family are at risk too, fleas will feed off babies, children and the elderly, these are all groups that are susceptible to infections and can react very badly to diseases.

Advantage or Front Line should always be in your home and used on your pets as directed as they can prevent an infestation taking hold in your home, if your pet is treated with an anti flea medication and it is bitten the chemicals from the medication enter the flea and interrupt the breading cycle of the flea, and as a single female flea can produce up to 50 eggs a day you can see how important it is to arrest this breading cycle as soon as you can.

You should never rely just on anti flea medication to kill off the fleas in your home if you do suffer from a flea infestation this is because by the time you realise you have an infestation, normal when you see your pet scratching excessively or when you or a member of your family have been bitten, there is a good chance that the fleas have been in your home for a time and have laid eggs in you carpets or soft furnishings and the anti flea medications will not stop these eggs from hatching so you may be just slowing the infestation if you rely solely on the anti flea medication, the best strategy is the multi pronged approach.

You need to use a flea bath on your pets as this will remove all the fleas from the pets fur if you follow it up with combing your pet with a flea comb. The correct use of natural remedies such as Pennyroyal, Cedar chips or Citronella at strategic points of your home can help prevent the infestations taking hold.

A flea fogger is a great way of ensuring your flea killing efforts are effective but the flea foggers use some incredibly toxic and flammable chemicals to kill the fleas, not only do they kill of the adult fleas the foggers have the ability to penetrate the shell of the fleas eggs and kill off the flea in the egg as it develops and so it halts the cycle of adult fleas laying eggs and these developing into more adult fleas that again lay more eggs. You must ensure that you follow the instructions that come with the flea foggers to get the most from them and to ensure you use them safely.

Using a combination of these approaches will ensure you kill off the flea infestation in your home and will help stop the infestation returning to your house or affecting your pets.

You need to dispose of the hoover bags that may contain fleas and have your soft furnishings and carpets cleaned as this will get rid of the eggs and flea bodies once you have used these flea killing tactics.
