Killing fleas is something you should do as soon as you spot the fact that you have a flea infestation. It is not easy to kill all the fleas in your home in one go or with one treatment as the fleas have many different stages of their life cycle and hide in various places through out your home.
One reason to get rid of the fleas in your home is that flea bites can spread disease and a lot of people have allergic reactions to flea bites and the reaction can be serious. If you have symptoms of fever or a bite remains itchy and inflamed for more than 2 weeks then you should consult your doctor and seek medical treatment.
If you are suffering from a flea infestation you need to decide how you are going to get rid of the fleas, do you want to go for natural non toxic remedies, or are you happy to use the toxic and flammable chemicals in a flea bomb or flea fogger. The flea foggers use the fog of toxic gas to kill off the adult fleas that are in your home and the eggs that may be in your carpets.
The fleas often enter your house in the fur of your pets, they feed on your pets lay eggs on the animals back and because the eggs are not sticky they fall from the dog or cats coats and land in the pile of your carpet where they stay undetected until they develop and hatch as adult fleas that are ready to start the cycle again.
To stop the cycle and prevent a flea infestation taking hold you should use anti flea medications such as Advantage or Front line, these feed the fleas with a poison that stops the flea reproducing and it kills them off too. With the breading cycle stopped the infestation may never get started,
Just killing fleas you can see will not be enough to stop the flea infestation of your home, it is recommended that you continue treating your pets with Front line or advantage or another anti flea medication for two and a half years after you suffer the last flea bite. The reason for this is that flea eggs and the lave within the egg can survive for up to two years waiting for the perfect time to hatch and grow to become a full size adult flea.
As the fleas can travel into your home on your pets you need to keep a close eye on out for the scratching and nibbling at the fur that pets will demonstrate when they have fleas in their coats.
Using ceder wood chips around the our side of your home can stop the fleas jumping into your home on there own, fleas can jump for quite a distance but they do not like to cross ceder wood and so having it around the house and the possible points of entry might help stop the fleas getting in.
With this in mind you should be observant and be on your guard and ready with a plan if you notice these unwanted visitors to begin killing fleas as soon as you spot them.
